Castor
2007
PVC adhesive
Variable dimensions
Vertical PVC strips line the walls, filling the space with their tart colours and decorative patterns. They could be mistaken as the original covering of the exhibition venue’s walls, on which various works are hung, as they were at Palazzo Grassi.
Part of the "Furniture Sculptures" begun in 1979, Castor blurs the lines between art and design, work and furniture. The installation is part of Swiss artist John Armleder's attempt to break away from style and singularity.
Castor was exhibited for the first time by the Pinault Collection at the 2009 "Mapping the Studio" show in Venice.
